The 30 Minute long demo of The Phantom Pain gameplay that was shown behind closed doors at the 2014 E3 to select press has been released in a small dose. Here is a 2 minute clip of the Japanese version of Kojima Station where Kojima and company show Snake and his new abilities:
Let’s break it down to see what’s now available to the players:
Looks like Snake can duck down on the side of his horse to hide from enemies, as we know, but he can also aim his weapon to take out these enemies.
Snake seems to have some new options when holding up enemies.
-Where are the rest?
-D Horse (call)
He can even Fulton guards as they stand held up as well as ones face down. Using Fulton will be different from PW as, though it’s not an equipped item which makes it seem limitless, it will cost 300 GMP to use every time.
Oh those wonderful SHEEP! Perhaps there will be more types of animals and Snake can build his own Noah’s Ark on Mother Base! Or a petting zoo… MGS: Metal Goat Simulator!
Another mechanic sort of makes its way back to MGS. Knock (call). It’s not KNOCKING per se, but it does attract a guard’s attention to disrupt their patterns. Instead of knocking on a wall Snake can Flick the wrist of his bionic arm which causes a clicking sound to call attention to his position, drawing enemies to him. This mechanic seems to reside in a tree of choices when pressed up against a wall or corner, instead of just a single contextual button press as in past MGS titles. Pressing L1 will bring up the tree to select what to do behind cover. Whistling [D Horse (call)] also seems to be an option as well, possibly to call your horse or to get a guard’s attention. What happens next seems to be some new CQC moves.
As well as capture soldiers and animals, Snake is apparently able to Fulton heavy containers away to Mother Base. The Fulton balloons, which people may think came from Peace Walker, actually made its debut in Portable Ops’ version of MGO (Metal Gear Online).
Here it looks a bit primitive, yet was decidedly upgraded to the iteration everyone is more familiar with from PW.
TPP looks more impressive by the day. I’m sure we all want our hands on this beast of an MGS game. Kojima still has yet to give us that elusive release date, but rest assured that once he gives it, you guys and gals shall receive it here! Stay tuned…
